NDIA Michigan Chapter
With a vision of being the premier connector in Michigan’s defense community, the NDIA Michigan Chapter champions programs that strengthen our state’s defense industry, inspire our region’s future leaders, and drive policy-forward collaboration.
Michigan’s defense industry fuels nearly $30 billion in economic activity, supporting over 166,000 jobs, and involving more than 5,000 businesses across defense, aerospace, and homeland security sectors. In addition, Michigan is the home for 17 commands, military organizations and installations which deliver critical capabilities to support U.S. military readiness and innovation for long-term advantage.
Our Ecosystem
With strengths in ground vehicle manufacturing, R&D, aerospace, mobility, autonomy, and cybersecurity, Michigan has world‑class manufacturing expertise, exceptional skilled and engineering workforce, and robust networks of support to ensure our country is prepared for future challenges and conflicts. This strong collaborative community offers companies a competitive edge, federal contracting tools, grant-writing aid, and bid-targeting systems to accelerate growth and readiness for the missions ahead.
Defense Policy: Shaping a Stronger Future
In response to the Department of Defense’s inaugural National Defense Industrial Strategy (NDIS) released on January 11, 2024, NDIA (at both the national and Michigan levels) continually advocates for industrial base resilience. We are focused on the importance of balanced support between traditional defense players and non-traditional innovators. Ensuring effective rollout of strategy implementation and robust resourcing ensures that our defense community is fully aligned with the industry’s needs.
Why It Matters
Initiative bridge industry, government, education, and innovation, helping ensure that Michigan’s defense ecosystem thrives.
STEM and acquisition efforts cultivate both skills and inspiration in future generations, which is critical for sustaining our mission over time.
Our policy advocacy ensures that the voices of our members are heard by government leaders,so that regulations, investments, and industrial strategies are intentional and well-resourced.
Defense Acquisition University Partnerships
Empowering today’s defense workforce with tomorrow’s advanced acquisition strategies, this initiative unlocks training opportunities rooted in practical DoD frameworks. NDIA‑MI provides local defense professionals with access to DAU curriculum, equipping them with essential skills to navigate evolving contracting landscapes with confidence and innovation.
