Chapter STEM recognition

NDIA Michigan Chapter’s STEM team enabled the collaboration between the Dynamic Network of African Americans (DNA2) employee resource group at General Dynamics Land Systems and George Washington Carver Academy in Highland Park, MI to develop an after-school STEM program. After a 1 year of searching and planning, a team of 5 DNA2 members volunteered their time to teach STEM in an after-school program with STEM kits provided by NDIA MI. The student scholars consist of (9) 4th graders, (4) 5th graders, and (1) 6th grader; in addition to 4 teacher volunteers. DNA2 and GWCA were excited to begin the collaboration on May 17, 2024. The student scholars were engaged and excited. Plans continue to be made to grow this program into competitive robotics (i.e. LEGO’s) at the elementary school level in the future.
